JezebelThe Montclair Public Library will show a series of classic films throughout the summer every Wednesday at 1:00 pm in the library’s air-conditioned auditorium. All films are FREE.

July 11: Love Me or Leave Me - Starring Doris Day and James Cagney. Ruth Etting had looks, ambition and talent but it took more than that to make her into a Jazz Age singing sensation. Chicago mobster Marty 'The Gimp' propelled Ruth from dingy dance halls to Broadway fame but turned her offstage life into a nightmare of violence and fear.

July 18: The Roaring Twenties - Starring James Cagney and Priscilla Lane. After WWI, three men attempt to make a living in Prohibitionist America after returning home from fighting together. Lloyd Hart goes back to practice law, former saloon keeper George Hally turns to bootlegging, and unemployed Eddie Bartlett becomes a cab driver. Together, they use a fleet of cabs to deliver bootleg liquor using Lloyd’s knowledge of the law.

July 25: All Through the Night - Starring Humphrey Bogart and Conrad Veidt. While searching for the killer of his favorite cheesecake baker, Broadway gambler Gloves Donahue stumbles upon murders, disappearances, and more. However, beneath the mystery is a much darker story of Nazi operatives planning to blow up a battleship in New York harbor.

August 1: Mildred Pierce - Starring Joan Crawford and Jack Carson. After separating from her husband, Mildred Pierce finds financial independence in successful small businesses but struggles with a demanding daughter.

August 8: Gilda - Starring Rita Hayworth and Glenn Ford. A professional gambler becomes the right hand man of a Buenos Aires casino owner. But their friendship is strained when the casino’s owner returns from a trip with a wife: the supremely desirable Gilda, whom Johnny once knew and learned to hate.

August 15: Jezebel - Starring Bette Davis and Henry Fonda. Jezebel is a sensitive but domineering Southern Belle living in New Orleans during the 1850’s. Unfortunately, her headstrong way causes her to lose her fiancé so she vows to get him back.
